A plain number of hours per day is no longer enough for many Swiss businesses. The Labour Act and numerous collective labour agreements (GAV) require detailed working-time control — with the start, end and breaks of each working day. That's exactly what the new detailed mode in Samay delivers.
What's New?
Until now, Samay recorded a duration per entry. With detailed mode, each entry instead captures:
- the start and end of working time
- breaks as dedicated blocks within the day
- the total duration incl. break as well as the effective working time
- the automatically calculated rest period between shifts
Breaks appear as their own blocks directly in the timeline, so it's immediately clear when work happened and when breaks were taken.
Why This Matters for GAV Compliance
The Swiss Labour Act (Art. 46 ArG together with Art. 73 ArGV 1) requires businesses with full recording obligations to log the start and end of daily working time as well as breaks of 30 minutes or more — not just a daily total. Many industry GAVs go further and prescribe complete, detailed working-time control.
With detailed mode, Samay meets this requirement right inside the app: employees enter start, end and breaks — even offline on the job site or on the road — and the report is built GAV-compliant, with nothing to fill in later at the office.
How to Enable Detailed Mode
Detailed mode can be switched on per team — under Profile → Detailed time tracking. From then on, all team members record their entries with start, end and breaks. Teams that prefer simple duration-only tracking just leave the setting off.
Included in PDF Reports
The detailed times — start, end and breaks — flow automatically into the PDF time reports. So in case of an inspection or audit, there's a complete, GAV-compliant record that can be retained for at least five years (Art. 46 ArG).
